Ecological compensation pools in the agricultural landscape

About this report
The project consists of three components. First, data on bird species richness, linked to wetlands in the agricultural landscape, are used to analyze uncertainty and spatial variation in biodiversity. These calculations form the basis for determining the amount of ecological compensation required to ensure the maintenance of total biological diversity. Secondly, an effective design of policy instruments and ecological compensation pools is examined, with a focus on the management of ecological and economic risk. This analysis is important for ensuring the ecological effect of the compensation system, while striving to manage society’s financial resources. Thirdly, the driving forces of landowners to adopt voluntary instruments for the restoration and construction of wetlands are examined. These driving forces are important to consider if one wishes to achieve a more large-scale application of ecological compensation in Sweden.
