Global efforts for prosperity and sustainability
Cooperating with international partners brings new insights and mutual benefits. It also strengthens our ability to achieve Swedish generational goals, our environmental objectives, and the Sustainable Development Goals under the global 2030 agenda.
Our international cooperation is aimed at contributing to the development of effective environmental authorities in our partner countries, for example by implementing commitments under international environmental conventions. We also participate in the development formulation of strategies and policies that promote greater stability and prosperity in Europe. In this way we also help to encourage democratic and economic reforms in countries that are subject to EU approximation.
Experts in environmental governance
Since the early 1990s the Swedish EPA has been involved in various forms of development cooperation. We know from experience that good environmental governance not only supports economic development, but also establishes the foundations for prosperity and sustainable development.
Our special area of expertise is capacity development of environmental public administration. With a clear citizen perspective, we work for more efficient and effective environmental governance based on democracy, human rights, and rule of law. Our environmental policy is aimed at balancing environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources with other policy goals, such as affordable energy, economic growth, and employment.
