Vietnam – new cooperations within environmental monitoring
The Swedish EPA’s cooperation with Vietnam started at the beginning of 2023 and is still in its start-up phase. The cooperation focuses on three main areas: environmental monitoring, water management and air quality.
Vietnam has seen tremendous growth in the last decades. At the same time, the country is facing several environmental and climate challenges. The Swedish EPA collaborates with the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute together with the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Environmental monitoring
After an initial contact in late 2022, the Swedish EPA has established a cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The ministry has shown particular interest in issues related to environmental monitoring in various ways. The cooperation now focuses on modeling, data collection and emissions statistics. The cooperation is expected to lead to beneficial exchanges of experience and knowledge between the two countries.
Water management and air quality
The cooperation in water management also focuses on emission monitoring and registering. More specific areas of cooperation are discussed in a working group with Swedish and Vietnamese government agencies. Technical equipment for management and data collection of point and nonpoint source of pollution, polluted lakes and rivers and surface water are examples of focus areas being discussed.
The starting point for the cooperation within air quality is also expected to be emission inventories, data management and statistical methods.
